Gravity is the universal attraction between all masses in the universe and the acceleration of gravity is 9.8 meters per second. In baseball, gravity is what pulls a thrown ball down to the ground and what keeps the baseball players feet on the field. If a pitcher pitches a slow ball to the batter, gravity will affect the ball more than if the pitcher threw a fastball because it would take gravity more time to act on the fastball. Without gravity, the baseball would keep going in the same direction it was thrown or batted forever unless an unbalanced force acts upon it according to Newton’s First Law. |
