Momentum

In the top picture, the batter is hitting the baseball with more force than the guy in the bottom picture and therefore, the baseball in the top picture will travel further.

Momentum is another force. Momentum is the product of the mass of an object and its velocity. If a fast ball is pitched to the batter and the batter hits it, the ball is bound to travel further than if the pitcher threw a slower ball to the batter because of momentum. When the ball meets the bat, most of the bat’s momentum is transferred into the baseball, making it travel away. This is due to momentum and the Law of Conservation of Momentum. A lot of major league baseball players use heavier bats because it increases the momentum but this is only useful if they can hit it just as fast as a lighter bat.
